When my partner and I first moved in together, we rented a small apartment in Crows

Nest. This was within walking distance of my office job at the time and so each day I found

myself walking up and down Holtermann St or Huntington St on my way to and from work.

During this time, I was delighted to find that, as winter started to transition into spring, the

bare, nubbly trees in every second front garden, suddenly began to burst into bloom with

magnificent pink magnolias. Each day I found myself studying the duality of those soft,

silky pink petals and the rough, irregular branches on display amongst these trees.

Walking Home is an attempt to capture the essence of these daily walks. It reminds me not

only of my favourite magnolia trees, but also the sense of freedom, excitement, love and

growing up that came with moving into that little Crows Nest apartment.
