Kaz Brock - Artist

As an oil painter, I mostly paint en plein air, painting local scenes in natural light to observe more variation in tone and colour. Nearby to my studio is the wetland area of Narrabeen Lagoon with its wide array of native birds, plant and marine life. The changing light and colour of the lake always inspires, providing endless sources for plein air studies. Walks along the lagoon trail nourish my connection with nature and inform my subconscious with interesting angles and shapes of colour. These inevitably find their way into my paintings. The coastal headlands and beaches in this area also provide endless inspiration for artworks. Recently I’ve enjoyed painting floral arrangements. Still life is similar to landscape painting in many ways and is a way for me to explore painting from life, indoors, whenever it’s not possible to venture outside.
